Bassong.

Newcastle defender Sebastien Bassong is determined that his first season in English football will not end in relegation. The 22-year-old Frenchman and his team-mates head into their daunting trip to Liverpool on Sunday knowing the three-point gap which currently separates them from safety could have increased markedly by the time they kick off at Anfield. With just four games to play, the Magpies are in severe danger of slipping out of the Barclays Premier League for the first time since they returned to the top flight in 1993. However, Bassong is refusing to give up on a season which has seen him firmly establish himself as a first-team regular at St James' Park. He said: "Honestly, I have enjoyed the season because it is my first season in England and the Premier League is the best championship. "But the situation of Newcastle United makes me a little bit sad because I don't want to help Newcastle go down in my first season, so I will try to help my team stay up."
