Reid: Goals will complete Imrie

Hamilton manager Billy Reid believes Dougie Imrie will be the complete player next season if he can add goals to his game. Imrie has been an Accies player for just half a season but did enough in that time to earn himself a two-year contract extension, which he signed on Tuesday. He put in several man-of-the-match performances in his 16 SPL appearances following his £25,000 switch from Inverness but found the back of the net just twice."Everybody has something they can improve on and the one thing he's got to add to is his goals tally," said Reid."For a player of his ability, if he chips in with a few more goals, he will be the complete player."Sometimes his overall work-rate and what he brings to the team detracts from being in a position to score goals. He is more of the provider."Reid added: "I knew I was getting a good player and when the opportunity came along to sign him, I was thrilled."He's the type of player who works a back four himself. He gives no-one peace and he must be horrible to play against."I think every defender in the league would tell you that Dougie Imrie is horrible to play against."Imrie was surprised by how seamlessly he adapted to life at New Douglas Park following his move from Caley Thistle in the January transfer window."I did actually think it would take me a little bit longer to settle than it did," he said."The manager was a big influence and a great help. He just lets you get on with your football."It's the same for everybody at the club and I think that's why Hamilton have done so well since they came back into the SPL."That's why we have such a good bond here. All the new players have gelled as well and it's looking good."Hamilton finished seventh in the SPL last season and Imrie would love to see them go one better and push into the top six.He said: "As a football club and as a player, you always try to do better than what you achieved in the last season."We got to seventh last season so if we can get to that again, or better it, it's another good achievement."We didn't really do well in the cups so we will be trying to do better this year and see how far we can go."
