Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson cold-shouldered by wantaway Javier Mascherano

Javier Mascherano was facing an increasingly uncertain Liverpool future last night after Roy Hodgson admitted he had been unable to contact his unsettled midfielder. Anxious to hear his views on being linked with a move to Inter Milan, Hodgson left a series of voice and text messages on Mascherano's mobile phone but revealed none had been returned. Out of reach: Javier Mascherano Hodgson played down the significance of apparently being cold-shouldered, though it reinforced belief that the Argentina skipper may be trying to engineer his departure from Anfield to link up again with his former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez at Inter. 'I have tried to contact Javier,' said the Liverpool manager. 'I have left him voice messages and sent him texts but had no reply. He has had a tough World Cup, and I believe he has gone back to Argentina. I wanted to make it clear I'd be happy to talk with him at his convenience, but it's not always easy getting in touch with people.' Hodgson flatly denied being on the verge of signing West Ham target and Nice striker Loic Remy, saying: 'He was mentioned to me by the scouting department, and the club were following him before I arrived. But I know very little about him. If I'm going to be interested in a player, I have to watch him play, study him and make judgements. I have not been able to do that.'  Hodgson: We're working hard to keep Torres, Gerrard and MascheranoRabotnicki or Mika. who are they? Exactly! Liverpool discover potential Europa League opponents
