McCarthy keen on Hyypia

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has admitted he would be interested in signing Sami Hyypia from Liverpool in the summer. The veteran defender could be available on a free transfer at the end of the season and a number of clubs are reported to be keeping tabs on his progress.McCarthy is looking to strengthen his squad after steering Wolves to promotion and he would like to bring in some experienced players."If Sami Hyypia was available and would consider coming to Wolves as a club who have just come up, then great," he told the Express and Star."If Sami is on a Bosman and we could talk about it then of course I'd be interested. But he's been linked with a quite a few clubs."SupportMcCarthy has already started to think about next season and is confident he will be given the financial backing to make Wolves competitive."We've already started looking. We will get the support from Steve Morgan. I target the players and then chief executive Jez Moxey sees if we can get them to sign."Like every other club, we get reams of paperwork telling us of people who are available."We have the distinct advantage of being able to start (planning) now."But the play-offs don't finish until May 25, the Premier League doesn't finish until the 24th and the FA Cup final is on the 30th."So I don't think anything substantial will be done with the Premier League clubs until after then."
