Fulop frustrated by poor showing

Sunderland goalkeeper Marton Fulop has admitted his shock and frustration at the Blacks Cats' abject display at West Brom on Saturday.The 25-year-old Hungary international returned to the side at The Hawthorns after a three-game absence and was stunned at the ease with which the Black Cats were put to the sword by the relegation-haunted Baggies.They were left in little doubt as to the feelings of their travelling fans, who are once again worrying about the prospect of relegation after briefly believing a corner had been turned.Fulop said: "I really struggle to understand the performance."Our fans down there were obviously not happy, and I cannot blame them for telling us."I think West Brom will be relegated and there was nothing for them to fight for, but they seemed to want the win more than us and I am surprised at that."It was a very bad day and we are not safe yet, so we cannot have many more performances like that before the end of the season."I am confident we will stay in the Premier League because we are capable of so much better, and we have to go and show that."There was something lacking from our performance from the very start, and I don't think we really got going at any stage."Sunderland have lost five of their last six Barclays Premier League games and collected only five points from a possible 27 since they defeated Stoke 2-0 on February 7.That has left them perched just above the drop zone with four games still to play.Everton visit the Stadium of Light on Sunday looking to bounce back from their 2-1 home defeat by Manchester City, and the Wearsiders then face tricky trips to Bolton and Portsmouth before they head for Chelsea on the final day of the campaign.Fulop knows they need to bounce back immediately, and that means getting a result against the Toffees this weekend.He said: "Everton are a talented team who have had a good season, so we know how difficult it will be against them."We had a performance against West Brom that wasn't good enough, so we have to put in more effort against Everton."The former Tottenham keeper will hope to retain his place in the team after earning a recall at West Brom as a result of Craig Gordon's knee injury.He played in 24 of the club's 26 games after Gordon damaged an ankle in training in October, but found himself back on the bench for the 2-0 defeat at West Ham on April 4 as manager Ricky Sbragia opted for change.Fulop told the Sunderland Echo: "I was obviously very upset to be left out. I didn't understand why."But I had to accept the manager's decision and do my job."The most important thing at the moment is the club's position in the league and we will all be looking for a big improvement against Everton next weekend."
