Allardyce targets one more win

Sam Allardyce believes Blackburn need one more win to stay up after beating Wigan on Sunday. The Rovers boss was delighted with his team after goals from Benni McCarthy and Ryan Nelson secured a vital 2-0 win over the Latics at Ewood Park.Allardyce praised his team as a whole for their efforts, he told Sky Sports 1: "It's a well earned three points at both ends today - some heroic defending and goalkeeping and then we had some quality balls in the box and put them under pressure."We didn't have the goalscorers available but we got the goals we needed."It was a great result, even though at times it was a little fraught in terms of our defending, but we got it right and it's a fantastic win for us."We've been clawing ourselves out ever since I came here. That's 24 points from 17 games now. In equation terms if you got that over the season that's a top-half finish."QualityAllardyce, who also picked out Paul Robinson for special praise for his contribution between the sticks, hailed the efforts of Christopher Samba who again featured as a make-shift striker."He's a got a lot more quality on the deck than people give him credit for," the Blackburn boss said."He's played up there a few times and he's getting more and more used to it - when to flick it on, when to bring it down, bring other people into the game."It takes two men to look after him and it gives you space elsewhere for others to exploit."When asked if Rovers need one more win to ensure safety Allardyce added: "Yes I think so now. It's been a long battle out of the bottom-three first, now we've got ourselves clear of it in the last few weeks, now we've put ourselves that bit clearer with less games to go."I'm really pleased for the boys today and for the fans because it has been a fantastic day for us."
