Edu hails Gers' belief

The holders of the Scottish Cup are favourites to retain the trophy after booking their place in the final on May 30 with a 3-0 win over St Mirren at Hampden yesterday. And, after notching up five consecutive wins in all competitions, Edu insists belief is growing that Rangers can overcome Celtic's one-point advantage at the summit of the Scottish Premier League.Celtic travel to Ibrox in a fortnight for the final Old Firm derby of the season, with the clash set to be pivotal in deciding the destination of the championship. And, having swapped the MLS for the SPL last summer, Edu believes two winner's medals would be the ideal way to mark his first season in Scotland."It would be massive for me," he said."I came here with the mindset that I wanted to win championships and win medals."In this first year, it would be great for me if that happened. I would be very happy and the team is still confident we can accomplish it."It's just a case of going out there and taking it game by game."Andrius Velicka provided the best possible start against Saints when he grabbed the opener after just two minutes.Rangers failed to capitalise fully on their advantage but second half goals from Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller sealed the victory.Edu said: "St Mirren made it a difficult game for us but, at the same time, we managed to keep a clean sheet, which is important."For the most part, we did a good job to stop them being too much of a threat and we had our own chances."There were good points for us and 3-0 was a good result."Much was made of the state of the Hampden pitch beforehand but Edu claimed there were no excuses for either team."It was difficult but it happens," he said."Some days you are going to have a good surface, other days it won't be so good."You just have to get on with it and try to adapt. At the end of the day, we did enough to get the result we wanted."
