Hughes puts his faith in youngsters

Hibernian boss John Hughes has vowed to continue giving youth its chance after bringing Lewis Horner into the first team at the weekend. The Tyneside-born midfielder - a member of Hibs' under-19 squad - was handed a chance in the 4-0 win at Dunfermline after impressing Hughes in training. The Hibs boss fast-tracked David Wotherspoon and Paul Hanlon into the first team at the start of last season and has given hope to the latest batch of youngsters that they could follow.Hughes told hibernianfc.co.uk: "Everyone could see that we are a club, who will give youth a chance."At the end there, other than (Derek) Riordan, (Michael) Hart and (Graeme) Smith, everyone was 21 and under."As long as they want to keep learning, then I will work with them all day long. Last year Wotherspoon and Hanlon hit the ground running and have become first team regulars."Wotherspoon, since we came back, has been outstanding. He played right-back for us in the first half and left-wing in the second."Lewis Horner is one who has been training with us for the last few days and I purposely matched him up with Liam Miller in training and I think he has taken great confidence from that."Lewis has caught my eye and it is for me to give him confidence and bring him out of his shell."It is important to show the under-19s that there is light at the end of the tunnel and something to aim for."Hughes is set to make changes for Tuesday night's friendly against Queen of the South in Dumfries, Hibernian's last match before they tour Holland.
