Tragedy strikes for Defoe

The half-brother of England footballer Jermain Defoe died on Friday night after a street attack. Jade Defoe, 26, suffered serious head injuries in a brutal assault on Monday afternoon in Leytonstone, East London.He was taken to a central London hospital where he died on Friday night.A 28-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody.A post-mortem examination will be held at East Ham mortuary on Saturday.Jade Defoe, also known as Gavin and Esco Bars, was popular as a grime MC on the urban music scene.Tottenham striker Jermain will miss Saturday's clash against Manchester United as he has not travelled with the rest of the squad to Old Trafford.A Tottenham statement read: "All at the club wish to extend their condolences to Jermain Defoe and his family following the death of his half-brother late yesterday."Our thoughts are with Jermain and his family at this sad time."The club will be giving Jermain both time and support whilst respecting his and his family's privacy."
