McCoist hoping for Fergie return

Ferguson, 31, suffered a calf tear less than two minutes into Tuesday's reserve match against Hearts - his first appearance for Rangers since returning from a two-week club suspension.Ferguson, along with goalkeeper Allan McGregor, was given the ban following his behaviour while on international duty with Scotland, which saw the duo indulge in an early-hours drinking session days before flicking V-signs at photographers during a game. But any hope of Ferguson resurrecting his career in the coming weeks was dealt a blow when he suffered his untimely injury."I feel for him," said McCoist. "I can tell you better than anyone that calves are murder."He reckons about three weeks. If that's the case, fantastic, that would be brilliant."But knowing calves as I do, I think it might be a bit longer."It's one of those things for Barry at the moment - it never rains but it pours."He will be disappointed because he was looking to get back playing, getting match practice and back in the squad and it wasn't to be."But he will knuckle down, get his treatment and hopefully get back in the squad."Responding to speculation about whether Ferguson will play for Rangers again, McCoist added: "I can understand it; that's the nature of the game."If the injury keeps him out for the remainder of the season, it will be a big disappointment for Barry and us, because we want all of our best players available."I don't think there is any doubt that Barry is one of our best players."He has a year of his contract still to go and hopefully he will be back before the end of the season."McCoist also refuted reports Kirk Broadfoot has been told he can leave the club after contract talks collapsed. The defender's representatives were reportedly informed Rangers will listen to reasonable offers for the player in the summer in an attempt to cut the wage bill. But McCoist said: "Someone said that he has been asked to leave but that is news to me."I don't think that's the case at all. If it is, I certainly don't know about it."I'm very much hopeful that Kirk and his advisors can sit down and get it sorted."While Ferguson is unlikely to feature again this season, McGregor also faces a fight to wrest the gloves from Neil Alexander for the title run-in."There is a possibility [he will play again this season] if he stays in the squad," said McCoist."But there is an equal possibility that, if Neil Alexander keeps playing the way he is playing, he will keep the jersey."Neil and Allan know that the goalkeeper is the same as any position."It's competition for places and playing well keeps you in the team and doing well gets you in the team."At this moment in time, Neil's got the number one jersey and we will sit down over the next couple of days to see if he keeps it."But he has certainly done nothing untoward that would suggest he should get dropped."Meanwhile, McCoist has claimed that the best team will win the league this season - regardless of issues with the post-split fixtures.Celtic have sought an explanation from the SPL after Rangers were given a third fixture at home against third-placed Hearts, while the Ibrox side are unhappy about a third trip to Easter Road this term."I'm not surprised that all teams have something to moan about," said McCoist."With the greatest of respect, it doesn't really bother me that much. I just want to play games of football against the top teams in the land and that's what we've got an opportunity to do."I can see where Celtic are coming from but you can also counter it by saying we are going to Hibs three times and Hibs have beaten Celtic."Let's get on with it. We both have some really tough games, really juicy games, and the best team will win the league."Rangers have also announced season-ticket prices have been frozen for a third year. Rangers 3/10, Draw 4/1, St Mirren 10/1
