Another reprieve for Shrimpers

Southend have another two weeks to prove they can pay their outstanding debts or risk going into administration. The club attended the High Court on Thursday to answer a petition by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs to have the club placed into administration. The Shrimpers claim they had arranged for the funds totalling the full amount owed - around £200,000 - to be paid, only for HMRC to add costs and a further sum to the petition. Southend now have until July 22 to submit their evidence with Judge Mr Justice Newey set to make a decision on the club's future on August 2.
