Southend have another two weeks to prove they can pay their outstanding debts or risk going into administration.
The club attended the High Court on Thursday to answer a petition by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs to have the club placed into administration.
The Shrimpers claim they had arranged for the funds totalling the full amount owed - around £200,000 - to be paid, only for HMRC to add costs and a further sum to the petition.
Southend now have until July 22 to submit their evidence with Judge Mr Justice Newey set to make a decision on the club's future on August 2.
