Boro boss Boyd by capture of Kris

Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Kris Boyd on a free transfer, with the former Rangers striker penning a two-year contract. The Scottish Premier League's all-time top-scorer passed a medical on Teesside over the weekend and has now penned his contract.Boro have revealed that Boyd has signed a two-year deal at The Riverside. The 26-year-old is Boro's second signing of the summer, joining Livingston's Andrew Halliday in the North East.Boro are also hoping to finalise the capture of Charlton captain Nicky Bailey in the next 24 hours.Boro manager Gordon Strachan, meanwhile, insists promotion from the Championship is critical this season.Strachan is determined to improve the fitness of his squad ahead of the new season, which he has emphasised with the recruitment of conditioning coach Roger Spry. Boro, who were relegated from the Premier League in 2009 following an 11-year stay in the top flight, failed to even make the play-offs last term. And Strachan has warned his players he will not tolerate another season without results. "We have to get promoted," said Strachan. "You want players who want to win every game. "In the Championship you are character-tested. If you've got character and goals in your team, then you've got to have a chance. "It might take some time to reshape the squad, but we will get there."
