Sharp relief as speculation ends

Doncaster's club record signing Billy Sharp admitted it had been a "confusing and wierd time" as speculation had raged over the striker's future. The 24-year-old, who fired 15 goals in 33 appearances for Rovers while on loan last season, was relieved to have finally signed a three-year deal after Sheffield United accepted Doncaster's £1.15million for the striker. Sharp, who turned down a move to Burnley after they had also had a bid accepted, told the club's official website: "It's been a confusing, wierd time I think because Sheffield United accepted a bid off Burnley and I went to speak to them, but it just didn't feel right. It was old manager there and they're a good club, just come down from the Premiership, but it just didn't feel right. "So I said no to that and there were a lot of other rumours surrounding me, but there was nothing concrete until Doncaster came in and obviously I was keen and I talked to the chairman and asked what his plans were and I was happy with what he wanted to do and was more than happy to sign. "Leeds I think came in for me in January when I was here (Doncaster), but I said I wanted to stay here and then I'd see, but Leeds never came in with a concrete offer so I never spoke to them." Sharp added: "The gaffer's a big reason why I've come here. I've learned a lot off him and enjoyed my time working under him and the lads have been brilliant. It worked last year, so hopefully it'll just carry on."
