Schwarzer believes in Boro

Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes his former club Middlesbrough are too good to go down. Schwarzer turned in a fantastic display against his former employers on Saturday to deny them all three points. The goalless draw leaves Boro in the final relegation place, three points from safety. But the big Aussie, signed from Boro on a free in the summer, feels his old team-mates have what it takes to beat the drop."They're not one of the worst sides in the division and on that performance they shouldn't be in that position," he told the Daily Star."Unfortunately that's the way it goes. Three teams have to go and if you don't accumulate the points over 38 games you go down."The league table doesn't lie. You're in that position because of various reasons."You can't pinpoint one match and say it's our fault because we've taken two points off them."I had a lot of good times here and still follow their fortunes closely. But their predicament is nothing to do with me, it's not my concern."Former Riverside favourite Schwarzer, who spent over a decade on Teesside, was on the receiving end of some banter from his former team-mates but had the last laugh with fantastic saves from Tuncay, Tony McMahon and Stewart Downing."He was man of the match for me and that says it all," said Downing."I joked with him afterwards that he didn't do that very regularly for us! He made some tremendous saves and played really well."Schwarzer's move to Craven Cottage now seems justified with Fulham in 8th and pushing for a European place and he admits that qualification would be his dream season ending."The ideal scenario for me is Fulham getting into Europe and Boro staying up. If they went down I'd be sad because I've got a lot of friends there."
