Skelton aiming to end goal drought

The former Gretna player's only strike to date came against Dundee United at the same venue in the second game of the campaign when he helped Killie to a 2-0 win.The Ayrshire side's fortunes have dipped in recent months and it took a moral-boosting win over rock-bottom Falkirk last week to register the first SPL success of the year. The Rugby Park side are six points clear of the Bairns but Skelton knows he has to start chipping in with goals if Jim Jefferies side are to survive a tense five-way relegation battle."I'm more than overdue a goal," said Skelton."I should have done better. I know that myself and I have definitely thought about it."Winning is the most important thing but I am overdue a goal."When the team is struggling for goals, you have to chip in and when I have been playing, I haven't done that."I scored four or five last year and got into good positions but I haven't got in to those positions this season."The goal I did score against United was early in the season and it was a header."I was meant to go round the back for the corner but I switched off."I saw the corner coming in and I made a dash to the front post and scored with a header."The gaffer patted me on the back but I think he would have slaughtered me if it had gone wrong."Until the victory over Falkirk, Kilmarnock had not won an SPL game on their own turf since November when they beat United for the second time.Skelton admits the victory over the Bairns has bolstered confidence at Rugby Park.He said: "We are feeling better about ourselves so hopefully we can take that into Saturday."We knew what was required against Falkirk; you could tell that the players knew it was a big game."But they are all big games now, especially after the split when the bottom six all play each other."The manager stopped us talking to the press and that was fine."You can talk as much as you like and make a headlines but talk is cheap and you don't get points for that."It was just a case of concentrating on the game."So the lads are obviously pleased with the result last week but there has been even more emphasis put on this game - this is equally as big."
