Police warn of more arrests

Eight football fans were arrested as trouble flared following Sheffield Wednesday's relegation to League One, South Yorkshire Police have confirmed. A win for the Owls over Crystal Palace at Hillsborough yesterday would have ensured survival and sent the south London team down, but the game finished in a nail-biting 2-2 draw which condemned the hosts to the drop. Police had to separate fans on the pitch at the final whistle, but all the arrests were made outside the ground. However, Palace defender Clint Hill required the protection of stewards as he raced to the players' tunnel after fans had invaded the pitch. A police spokesman said: "Essentially, Sheffield Wednesday supporters were involved in disorder outside the ground just after the game. "Eight arrests were made for public order and assault and officers are reviewing footage from the police helicopter with the view to perhaps making more arrests."
