Hughton bids for Turkish striker

NEWCASTLE UNITED are weighing up making a renewed bid for Turkish striker Mevlut Erding after having an initial offer rejected. Paris St Germain have rejected an offer of £4m for the 23-year-old who only moved to the French capital last summer from Sochaux. PSG, who reportedly paid £7.5m for him a year ago, are looking for at least their money back on a forward who scored 15 goals in Ligue Un last season. Erding has three years left on his contract and is regarded as one of his country's brightest prospects. But with officials at Newcastle stating earlier this summer that Hughton had very little cash to invest in his squad ahead of a first season back in the Premier League, it is difficult to imagine PSG's demands being met. Hughton is keen to strengthen his attack and has Andy Carroll, Peter Lovenkrands, Shola Ameobi and Leon Best at his disposal with Nile Ranger likely to go out on loan. Chris Hughton is keen to push through a deal for Erding, and is also interested in Scottish striker Kris Boyd.
