Ali Gerba and Luke Chadwick forged Roberto Di Matteo's side ahead, before Steven Elliott pulled one back, but Rovers ran out of steam in their search for a leveller.
"We lacked tempo in the first half. We had a few knocks and a few tired legs out there," said Trollope.
"We didn't move the ball well enough for a lot of the game. The goal at the end sparked us and I thought we could have equalised.
"We said at half-time we fancied a goal from a set piece, but unfortunately we were 2-0 down by the time we got that goal."
