ewcastle manager Chris Hughton has confirmed he did contact Bolton to discuss Jlloyd Samuel, but says there has been no bid as yet. It was reported on Wednesday that Bolton had rejected an offer of £1million from the Magpies for the experienced defender.Hughton has now moved to clarify the situation, saying that he has not made a formal proposal to the Trotters. The Newcastle boss is currently assessing the availability of possible transfer targets and admits there were a number of other Bolton players on the agenda when he spoke to Owen Coyle's club."I can't say there hasn't been a phone call to see what the situation is (with Samuel)," Hughton told the Evening Chronicle. "But it has not gone as far as a bid, definitely not."He would have been probably one of a few players we've enquired about from that club even. "At the moment we are in the process of finding out the availability of certain players and he was one of them."But I can say that it is nothing more than that at this stage."
