Killie urged to do talking on pitch

Jefferies has banned his players from speaking to the media before Saturday's relegation battle against SPL bottom club Falkirk at Rugby Park. Killie have not won an SPL game in 2009, and their last home win in the league came in November. But Jefferies has been generally satisfied with their performances, until Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Tynecastle. That prompted a debrief which resulted in the players being told to sort out their situation on the field. "We have not talked about relegation," said Jefferies. "We know the consequences. "Some players have made statements recently, and the chairman backed it up and was right in everything he said - so we're aware of that. "The players had a wee chat themselves after they watched the video and said they do realise what's at stake and this is what needs to be done. We'll get a good week's training and get out against Falkirk and get a result. "Everything will look that bit better, although it won't take us out of it." Kilmarnock are three points above the Bairns, whose only away win in the SPL this season came at Rugby Park. "It's a big, big game for both clubs - probably especially Falkirk because they can get level," Jefferies added. "We've got to be aware it is a big game for them, and if you're not up for it you don't deserve to beat them. "If I was a footballer, that's what I would be thinking. I want to play in the Premier League; I don't want to go down and hurt my pride and see my team-mates struggle, as would happen at all clubs. All clubs would be cutting their cloth. "This is the time for everyone to pull together." Jefferies has experienced relegation from the top flight as a manager, with Falkirk in 1993, and he knows only the players can haul themselves out of the five-way fight. "I've been there before, and you try to pass on your experience to try to get the best out of them," he said. "Once they cross the line, there is not a lot the manager or coaches or backroom staff can do - at any club. "It's about the players, and the players have to realise it's time. "That's why I stopped them talking to the press this week. Do your talking on the pitch."
