Rooney - It could've been worse

Wayne Rooney admits Manchester United are thankful to still be in their UEFA Champions League tie with Porto after a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. The holders produced a sluggish display in the first leg of the quarter-final clash and fell behind to Cristian Rodriguez's goal after just four minutes.Rooney drew United level by seizing on a woeful back-pass from Bruno Alves on 15 minutes before flicking the ball into the path of substitute Carlos Tevez to put the hosts in front five minutes from time. But Porto hit back a minute from time through Mariano Gonzalez, having been the better team for long periods and created the more clear-cut chances.United striker Rooney acknowledged the onus is on the reigning champions to improve for the second leg in Portugal next week.Created problems"We knew Porto were a good team," Rooney told Sky Sports News. "We had videos on them before the game."We knew what to expect and we should have dealt with it a bit better, I thought."Going back there we will have to make sure we play the way we can and hopefully we'll get the win."He added: "They have got a good away record in Europe this season and we know what we needed to do, but we just didn't deal with it, simple as that."Thankfully we're still in the tie as it could have been worse tonight. Hopefully we will go there and prove ourselves to be a good team and get the victory."United were shaky in defence for much of the night and Rooney acknowledged the home side contributed to their own problems."We created a lot of problems for ourselves as a team and you don't really want to do that," Rooney continued."If teams do some great things, fair enough, but we created a lot of problems for ourselves and hopefully we can cut that out."
