Magpies appoint Shearer

Newcastle United have confirmed the appointment of Alan Shearer as their manager for the final eight games of the season. Sky Sports News revealed on Tuesday night that Shearer was poised to be named the Magpies' new manager and the club have now finally confirmed the news.Newcastle have moved for former England captain Shearer to guide the club for the last weeks of the season with Joe Kinnear currently recovering from heart surgery.Magpies legend Shearer has been continually linked with a return to St James' Park as manager and now he has taken up the task of keeping the club in the Premier League.Executive director Dennis Wise left the club earlier on Wednesday clearing the way for Shearer to finalise his return to the North East.Shearer's former Southampton team-mate Iain Dowie will act as his No.2 with Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood keeping their roles in the coaching team.Newcastle's managing director Derek Llambias was delighted to announce the appointment of Shearer and believes his arrival will give the whole club a massive boost as they look to avoid relegation.
