England's No 1 Rooney: I will never stop being a hot-head

Wayne Rooney admitted he will never change his hot-headed approach after picking up the England supporters' Player of the Year award for 2008. The England striker scored twice in the 4-0 win over Slovakia at Wembley on Saturday, but his temperament has been under scrutiny since his sending-off in Manchester United's 2-0 defeat at Fulham the previous week. Rooney, who has scored in his last four games for England, said: 'I do get frustrated but aggression has always been part of my game. The desire to win makes me the player I am. Take that away and I'd be totally different. If I'm honest, I will never get used to losing.' Rooney has scored seven times in World Cup qualifying victories against Croatia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and the friendly against Slovakia, resulting in his award. His five qualifying group goals is the best by an England player since 1958 by Tommy Taylor, who was killed in United's Munich Disaster four months before that year's finals. Asked what it meant to play for his country, Rooney said: 'Absolutely everything! I still get shivers down my spine when I step out on to the pitch for England.' The striker, who will win his 50th cap against Ukraine at Wembley tomorrow, claims England are on the verge of something special under manager Fabio Capello.
