England captain John Terry hopes that Wayne Rooney's two-goal display against Slovakia will silence the striker's critics. Rooney scored a brace at Wembley on Saturday as Emile Heskey and Frank Lampard also hit the target in a 4-0 friendly victory for Fabio Capello's side. The Manchester United forward had gone into the weekend with his temperament under the spotlight following a recent red card at Fulham. But Terry feels that his international team-mate provided the perfect response to anybody who doubted his ability. "I said before, 'let Wayne play'. That is what he is best at doing," the England captain told Sky Sports News."Hopefully people don't keep talking about that (Rooney's temperament) because he has matured over the years and you see him growing into a very mature man, on and off the field.Freedom"It is great to see and we love seeing him play with freedom."Terry also had praise for David Beckham after the midfielder came off the bench in the second half to break Booby Moore's outfield appearance record with his 109th cap. When asked about Beckham, the Chelsea defender added: "He comes on and always makes a difference. That is the quality he brings to the squad whether he starts or comes on."He comes on, the determination and the fight, he will keep going forever."Meanwhile, Terry is optimistic strikers Heskey, Peter Crouch and Carlton Cole can shake off injuries ahead of Wednesday's World Cup qualifier with Ukraine."That is the only disappointing thing to come out of the game, but that happens in games," said Terry on the trio of fitness problems."We would have liked to have come away with no injuries. But we picked up a few and all in attack, which is disappointing."Hopefully the guys have got two or three days to shrug them off and be ready for Wednesday."
