Selection anguish for hot-shot Bent

Sunderland striker Darren Bent has been left out of England's World Cup squad, with Fabio Capello chosing only four strikers in his final 23. Bent had been named in the initial 30-man training squad for the friendlies against Mexico and Japan but has failed to make the plane for South Africa.Bent, who scored 24 times in the Barclays Premier League last term, has yet to score a senior international goal in six appearances and played the first 45 minutes against Japan having been left on the bench against Japan. The striker's snub means there will be no Sunderland players in an England shirt in South Africa.
