Barcelona switch tactics over Cesc Fabregas in bid to get Arsenal to the negotiating table

Ambition: Arsenal star Fabregas wants to join Spain team-mates David Villa (right) and Sergi Busquets (centre) at the Nou Camp next seasonBarcelona have changed their approach to signing Cesc Fabegas after their much-publicised attempts to lure the Arsenal skipper to Spain hit a brick wall, according to reports in Catalonia. The Gunners are refusing to discuss a transfer with the Spanish champions but Barca believe the intense media speculation surrounding the proposed switch has hampered proceedings.Club officials have now stepped up informal contact with Arsenal in the hope of building bridges before entering full talks, and are preparing a trip to London for discreet negotiations should they receive any encouragement. With Fabregas seemingly set on leaving north London after seven years and rejoining his boyhood club, the main sticking point appears to be the huge disparity in each club's valuation of the player.Barcelona are ready to part with no more than £38m for the player they brought through the schoolboy ranks, but Arsenal have indicated they would not be ready to let their captain leave for less than £80m.  Money's too tight to mention: Arsenal risk alienating Fabregas with their £80m price tag, with Barcelona willing to pay up to £38m for the midfield maestroWhile Fabregas will not publicly criticise the Gunners over their stance, Arsenal risk alienating their star midfielder should they stand firm on the astronomic asking price. The Spain international revealed his desire to return to Catalonia at a meeting with Arsene Wenger last week and believes his boss to be sympathetic towards his wish  to leave.Meanwhile Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood has revealed that should Wenger decide to cash in on Fabregas, all proceeds would be reinvested into the squad.Fabregas would leave a giant hole in the Arsenal side and a top class replacement would not come cheap. But Hill-Wood insisted that the club would not hesitate to splash the cash if need be.He said: 'Our transfer policy is to give the manager a budget which includes the ability to use all the money from player sales.'Fabregas might stay, he might go.
