Barcelona to do battle with Chelsea in race for unhappy Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano

Reason to cheer: Liverpool's Javier Mascherano is on Barcelona's shopping list for this summerBarcelona's proposed summer raid on the Premier League shows no signs of slowing after reports in Spain claim the Catalan giants will go head-to-head with Chelsea and renew their interest in Liverpool's Javier Mascherano.The former European champions have already begun the process the luring Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas 'home', while Yaya Toure looks set to leave the club. Barcelona reportedly bid in the region of £18million for Argentine Mascherano last season and have since seen their hand strengthened by delays on Liverpool's part in tying the player to a new deal.Mascherano, whose current contract runs out in 2012, has grown tired of the wrangle between the club and his advisors and is anticipating an approach from elsewhere.The holding midfielder has also been linked with a move to Italy with Inter Milan. Mascherano played 47 games for Liverpool in the Premier League and European competition this season, scoring one goal, picking up 11 yellow cards and two red cards.Should Mascherano join Barca, Toure, brother of Manchester City star Kolo, will almost certainly leave the Camp Nou.
