Axed Hull boss Phil Brown agrees compensation deal to scupper any hopes of a shock return

In limbo: Former Hull City manager Phil Brown Phil Brown has agreed an £800,000 compensation deal with Hull City - ending all hope of him making a shock return as manager. Brown was placed on gardening leave in March as he struggled to keep the Tigers in the Premier League. But he was still on full pay, including bonuses, while chairman Adam Pearson even admitted he could make a return to the club as boss in the summer. But the Tigers have decided to reach a financial settlement with Brown despite struggling with debts of more than £36m.Brown earned £1.4m-a-season and still had just over 12 months of his contract to run at the KC Stadium. He rejected the club's initial offer of £500,000 but has now accepted a compromise figure in return for him severing all ties with the relegated club. Meanwhile director Martin Walker has stepped down from the board as part of the club's ongoing restructuring. It follows changes earlier this month which saw owner Russell Bartlett become chairman, with Pearson becoming head of football operations.  Axed Hull boss Phil Brown fuels talk of sensational return to KC StadiumHull City playing staff hold talks with PFA after being asked to take a pay cutHull squad's talks with PFA continue after Tigers attempt to slash £39m billHULL CITY FC
