Ryan strike enough to defeat Darlo

Jimmy Ryan belted home his 10th goal of the season as Accrington beat Darlington 1-0 on Tuesday to virtually secure their safety from the drop. The former Liverpool trainee rifled home a 25-yard free-kick in the 22nd minute after winger Chris Turner had been fouled by Franz Burgmeier at a rain-soaked Fraser Eagle Stadium.Stanley new boy Michael Symes could not connect properly with an Andy Procter knockdown while striker Craig Lindfield almost got the final touch following a good move but Darlington keeper Andy Oakes just got there first. After the break, Darlington came back into it and one-time Stanley target Danny Carlton forced keeper Kenny Arthur into two superb saves in quick succession as they hunted for the equaliser. And Stanley's Lindfield was lucky to escape with only a yellow card after raising his arms to Burgmeier following the Darlington man's late tackle on Chris Turner.Oakes denied Turner and Lindfield late on as Stanley made it four wins in five games.
