Werder Bremen's Per Mertesacker eyes 'attractive' Arsenal switch

Werder Bremen's Per Mertesacker opened the door to a summer move to Arsenal with the German international centre-half calling a potential move to the Emirates 'attractive'. The 25-year-old, a first choice for his country, was asked about his future at the Weserstadion by German daily Bild.'There are certainly attractive clubs abroad. In particular, clubs that have been playing for years in the Champions League,' he said. On the move: Could Per Mertesacker (right) be the answer to Arsenal's defensive woes? After completing his fourth season at Werder, the 6ft 5in stopper could be exactly the type of performer required by Arsene Wenger to solve his central-defensive conundrum. While Thomas Vermaelen - a £10million recruit from Ajax last summer - shone in his first season at Arsenal, the futures of veterans William Gallas, Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre are unclear. With 60 caps already under his belt, Mertesacker's leadership qualities and consistency could be exactly the attributes required at Arsenal as Wenger looks to mount a serious title challenge next term.  Cesc Fabregas worth the wait as Barcelona threaten to prolong chase for Arsenal skipperChelsea and Arsenal lining up move for Barca's teenage playmaker AssulinARSENAL FC
