Future fears keep Gers fans on edge

Rangers supporters are unable to enjoy the fruits of last season's success because they are fearful of what the future may hold. The Ibrox men captured the Co-operative Insurance Cup by beating St Mirren in the final before winning their second successive SPL title. However, the uncertainty over the club's future remains with London-based property developer Andrew Ellis claiming he will step aside from his possible £33million buyout if a rival bidder was better placed to take them forward. There are also doubts over the future of manager Walter Smith, who, along with his backroom staff, have been working without a contract since January.Fans' favourite Nacho Novo will move back to Spain to play for Sporting Gijon while out-of-contract striker Kris Boyd has been linked with a move to Turkish side Kayserispor, all of which is adding to the anxiety being felt by the Light Blues support."After winning the league for the second time in a row, you should be looking forward to next season," said general secretary of the Rangers Supporters Association John MacMillan."But fans are asking, 'where are we going to be next season?'"It's very messy. It's been going on too long and there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel."It is disturbing at a time when the fans are being asked to renew their season tickets."I would imagine they will be down in numbers until we find out what's going on."Is Kris Boyd the next player to go? Will Madjid Bougherra also be away?"We can ill-afford to lose any more players."The squad was under pressure last season but the players adapted well under the circumstances and they deserve great credit."Andy Kerr, president of the Rangers Supporters Assembly, told Press Association Sport that he is hoping that Smith will pledge his future to the club as soon as possible."Personally, I think Walter Smith is pivotal to what will happen," Kerr said."The biggest concern is if Smith steps down."That would be a huge blow and one which would be hard to recover from."It could have a domino effect at the club. If there was an announcement next week that Walter was staying at the club then that would be a huge boost."
