Williams: Rovers don't need to sell

lackburn chairman John Williams insists the club will not have to sell star players this summer as they have done in the past. Despite losing the likes of Roque Santa Cruz, Stephen Warnock and Matt Derbyshire last summer, Rovers managed to claim 10th spot in the Barclays Premier League in Sam Allardyce's first full season in charge.Having flirted with relegation in the previous campaign, Blackburn will now be boosted by the prize money from a top-half finish and Williams has stressed that they are no longer a "selling club"."We have, through the Premier League, managed to secure some attractive rises in overseas television revenues," Williams told BBC Radio Lancashire."Those differences effectively mean we can return to being a trading club rather than a selling club."He continued: "It is a fact that we had to sell Roque Santa Cruz and Stephen Warnock in order to balance the books and maintain wage levels that were necessary for us to be competitive."The difference going forward is that within reason we can maintain our wage bill without the need to sell."It means that the 10th-place money has protected the fund started by the sale of Benni McCarthy to West Ham (in January), so we have got some spending power in this close season."
