Hughes aims for best ever season

The much-needed three points ensures the Bairns are now in touching distance of Inverness, St Mirren and Kilmarnock after being cut adrift prior to kick-off with a four-point deficit to make up.Hughes has already made club history by guiding them to two domestic cup semi-finals this season and reckons this campaign could surpass anything the Bairns have achieved in the past if they secure their SPL status. He said: "This could be the best year in the club's history. We have been in one semi-final and we are in another in the Scottish Cup."I am loving it because it's a fight and we will see how we go."I am pleased for them, they are a great set of boys but we won't be getting carried away and this result won't determine anything."It will be after the split that counts with the five games against each other but it brings teams closer to us and we are in the mix."We were resolute and hard working, played some good football and got the four goals so it was a good day."I think other teams could get dragged back into it, we have got the momentum."Carl Finnigan gave Falkirk the lead in the 37th minute after steering Jackie McNamara's pulled shot into the empty net.Mark Stewart doubled their lead in the 65th minute after latching onto Michael Higdon's flick-on before slotting the ball past Ryan Esson.Esson was then sent off for fouling Finnigan in the box with 10 minutes left and Scott Arfield converted the penalty.Finnigan added his second in injury time with a neat near-post finish.Disappointed Inverness manager Terry Butcher had no complaints with the result but refused to be too downbeat with his side still a point clear of the Bairns. He said: "I feel very disappointed because we had a lot of fans that came down and we put on a performance that was nowhere near the level that we had shown prior to this game."It was a bad day at the office and we have to make sure we don't do that again."have lost a battle but we have not lost the war. The bottom line is that we have lost 4-0, we had a man sent off and we are a point clear of Falkirk."
