Laws pleased with Owls effort

Laws said: "Swansea are a good footballing side, but the players worked extremely hard and I thought we were unlucky not to get a goal. We've done as good a job on them as anybody this season."Some of the football we played was excellent - particularly in the second half - and their goalkeeper had to pull off some great saves."The point edged Wednesday closer to safety, but Laws won't rest until they are certain of avoiding the drop.He said: "We're probably safe but it's still mathematically possible for us to go down so we'll keep going."The Owls manager praised on-loan striker Luke Varney, who came on in the first-half to make his debut after signing from Derby County."I thought he was excellent," added Laws. "His movement was good and he hung in the air well."Swansea boss Roberto Martinez had no complaints after seeing his side pick up a point. He said: "We had long spells of possession, but the final pass let us down. I thought that a draw was probably a fair result."I was very pleased with the attitude of the players on a very difficult pitch and overall the performance was what we needed."At least now we have a break to give the players a rest, ready for the final push. I'm excited about the next six games."Comparing striker Jason Scotland to Brazilian great Romario, Martinez said that the Trinidad & Tobago star has to try and conserve his energy while away on international duty. The manager explained: "They are sprinters and they have to be sharp."There were few clear-cut chances in a fairly evenly contested first-half.Wednesday substitute Luke Varney was through on goal just before the break, but Dorus De Vries saved the striker's low shot with his legs. Marcus Tudgay earlier shot narrowly wide.Swansea's best chance in the first half fell to Jordi Gomez, who fired straight at keeper Lee Grant.Gomez was in the thick of the action early after the restart, having an effort blocked and then seeing his free-kick well saved by Grant down to his left. After Darren Potter put a 20-yard effort wide, Wednesday twice went close to scoring in the 79th minute.Richard Hinds' header looked destined for the roof of the net before De Vries did well to palm clear. The ball was only half-cleared and it fell to Tudgay, who shot straight at the keeper from a good position.Tudgay also had a good chance, heading wide deep into stoppage-time after meeting a Varney cross.
