Manchester United star Wayne Rooney believes he has what it takes to be a manager in the future
More success: Rooney with the Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year awardWayne Rooney has revealed his desire to go into management.After accepting the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year award, Rooney said: 'I would like to be a manager, of course.'Football is my life. I joined Everton when I was nine and it's a massive part of who I am.'I have started doing my coaching badges this year. I love football, I enjoy it. I can't see myself running a restaurant.'I am only 24, so I have plenty of years playing ahead of me, but one day I would like to become a manager.''I started doing my coaching badges this year, and probably did not do as many classes as I would have liked.'Hopefully I can continue them next year.'Rooney also couldn't resist a light-hearted dig at his boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, adding: 'The manager told me to score more headers this season. I said to him, 'Last season I was crossing the ball. Do you want me to get on the end of my own crosses?'.'Ferguson said: 'Wayne has every right to sit among the pantheon of great players to win the writers' award. He is electric.'Meanwhile, Dimitar Berbatov will resist any move to sell him despite two modest seasons at Manchester United.The 29-year-old Bulgarian, who retired from internationals on Thursday, said: 'I'm sure United will buy a striker, but I'm still there and that's important. I will try to fulfil my (four-year) contract.' At the top of his game: Rooney has been superb in the past season for Manchester UnitedRooney also spoke on Thursday night about his hopes for the World Cup.England play their first match against the United States in Rustenburg on June 12.And Rooney, who is regarded as integral to England's hopes this summer, added: 'There's a week's break now before we meet up with England and I am looking forward to the biggest tournament in the world and I cannot wait for that first game.'The expectation is for other people to talk about and think about.'For me I am just looking to get myself right to get to the World Cup and do my best and with a bit of luck, hopefully we can be successful.'
