More misery for Fulham fans

Fulham fans mourning their team's defeat in the Europa League final endured more misery on Thursday thanks to long delays getting home. Supporters told of chaotic scenes at Hamburg Airport when thousands of Fulham and Atletico Madrid followers arrived for early-morning flights back to the UK and Spain.One fan told how 300 people were taken out to a plane, only to find it had half the number of seats. She blamed a lack of staff at the German gateway for the havoc.Dawn Dunlop told the BBC: "(Hamburg Airport doesn't) seem to have been able to cope with it. They didn't have enough staff."They decided to bus us out to the plane that was somewhere on the airfield. 300 people were taken out. but there were only 150 seats."The whole thing has been a complete disaster."Fellow fan Lyndon Morant posted a photo on Twitter of long queues at Hamburg Airport, entitled: "Fulham fans in chaos."Dozens of extra flights to and from the UK and Spain were laid on at the airport for last night's showpiece final.Fulham had been bidding to win the club's first European trophy, but lost 2-1 to Atletico after a heart-breaking extra-time winner.It was scored by former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan, whose goals also eliminated Liverpool from the tournament.Fulham manager Roy Hodgson spoke of his regret but paid tribute to his team.He said: "I couldn't in my wildest dreams imagine we would get here when we started, but unfortunately that doesn't help."Having been here and acquitted ourselves so well, you feel we could have taken a further step."
