Ballack: Time's tight for contract talks

Michael Ballack concedes time is "tight" as he looks to secure a new contract at Chelsea before the start of the World Cup finals. The experienced Germany midfielder is out of contract in the summer and is yet to discuss an extension with the newly-crowned Premier League champions.Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay confirmed earlier this week that the club would not be entering into talks until after Saturday's FA Cup final against Portsmouth.Ballack is due to link up with the Germany squad following the Wembley showdown to start his preparations for the World Cup next month. And, while he understands Chelsea's decision to delay contract negotiations, he admits time is running out to secure an agreement."Roman Abramovich will only hold contract discussions once the season is over," said Ballack."I don't want to pass judgement on that and I have to accept it."But everything is becoming rather tight in terms of time."The 33-year-old, who has made almost 170 appearances in four years at Stamford Bridge, has been linked with a return to the Bundesliga with Schalke.
