Cherries: Pearce's faith in 'core' players

SKIPPER Jason Pearce is relishing the prospect of leading Cherries in League One and believes the club's core of players is very strong. The wholehearted centre-half has been an inspirational performer for the Dean Court club this term. He battled through the pain of a broken toe to help Eddie Howe's men cross the promotion line and is already looking forward to life in the third tier. Having been part of the team which suffered relegation in 2008, he is keen to get another taste of the action at a higher level. Pearce told the Echo: I want to be back in League One and playing my football there, as all the team does. We've got to learn from Saturday's defeat at Chesterfield and not let it happen next season because otherwise we will get beaten by more than 2-1. But the lads have been terrific all season and credit goes to everyone at the club. We've achieved something fantastic but we've got to build on it now. Hopefully, we will get in a few new faces, build the squad and, hopefully, have a real good go next season. Pearce, whose consistent partnership with Ryan Garry provided the cornerstone of Cherries' solid defence, believes there is a good base to build from. He added: The core of the squad is very strong we know that. We're very young as well and, hopefully, we can push on next year and give it a real go.
