Phil Brown faces touchline ban from FA after row with Joe Kinnear

He is due to appear before Football Association disciplinary officials to answer the misconduct charge he attracted following a row with Newcastle United counterpart Joe Kinnear. However, he has already been in trouble with the FA this season after kicking a water bottle at the fourth official during his side's 5-0 defeat to Wigan. He was handed a fine and warned about his future conduct. Should Brown be banished to the directors' box it could undermine his efforts to steer them to Premier League safety. Kinnear will not appear before the disciplinary committee in London today as he is recovering from a triple heart bypass operation. He will face FA officials at a date to be fixed but is not due to return to work at St James' Park until mid-April at the earliest.
