Sunderland defender Ferdinand winning fitness race to face Manchester City

Anton Ferdinand expects to be fit for Sunderland's trip to face Manchester City on Sunday after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury. The former West Ham man had been playing well when he suffered the problem in training prior to the Tottenham game 10 days ago, but has now returned to training and could feature at Eastlands. Ferdinand said: 'The injury is a lot better. I will test it in training and see if I am ready for the game. 'I felt it in training the day before the Tottenham game. I stretched to block a shot and it happened. Luckily it wasn't bad and I should be back soon.' Fellow defender Tal Ben-Haim is unavailable under the terms of the Israeli's loan move from City.
