Chelsea's Michael Mancienne attracts interest from Liverpool and Manchester City

According to the Times, the 21-year-old's contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the next season and both clubs are hopeful of signing the England international with the promise of regular football. Mancienne has been at Chelsea since he was 12 but has reportedly become frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities, particularly under former manager Luiz Felipe Scolari.  Related ArticlesTerry cranks up pressure on United'Essien vital to treble challenge'Have Liverpool blown the title race open?Chelsea prevent Luiz Felipe Scolari taking Premier League job this seasonWayne Bridge relishes Manchester City's planned summer spending spreeFrank Lampard puts on a show for Luiz Felipe Scolari in GuangzhouSince the appointment of Guus Hiddink, as interim coach, Mancienne has been given more of a chance to shine, although with the likes of Jose Bosingwa, Ricardo Carvalho, John Terry and Ashley Cole ahead of him in the pecking order, a move could prove beneficial at this stage of his career. Mancienne returned from a loan spell with Wolves in January hopeful that it would kick-start a run in the Chelsea starting XI. However, that has so far failed to materialise and the defender is concerned this will impact on his chances of securing a place with England U21's at the European Championship finals. Stuart Pearce, the U21 head coach, has stressed that he will only pick players who are performing regularly. Mancienne is due to open talks regarding a new contract with Chelsea at the end of the season, but the Times claims he will take an open-minded approach to other offers. Man City are also in the hunt for Sheffield United defender Kyle Naughton. City, Fulham and Tottenham are ready to join Aston Villa in the race to sign the £4m-rated 20-year-old.
