Laws bangs drum for English duo

urnley boss Brian Laws reckons the success of Harry Redknapp and Roy Hodgson may lead to a renaissance of English managers in the top-flight. Laws welcomes Redknapp's Tottenham side to Turf Moor on Sunday after they secured a place in the Champions League in midweek by beating Manchester City.Hodgson, meanwhile, will lead unfancied Fulham into the Europa League final on Wednesday when they face Atletico Madrid in Hamburg.Redknapp takes his place at England's top table alongside Chelsea's Carlo Ancelotti (Italy), Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson (Scotland) and Arsenal's Arsene Wenger (France).Laws said: "There have been rumblings that it will not be too long before English managers are extinct in the Premier League."It is fantastic that Harry is in the Champions League and flying the flag for England managers. Roy Hodgson is doing it as well."It is brilliant for the league and rightly so because there are some quality coaches out there, some quality managers."They deserve all the credit. They are not going to be extinct. They are going to be stronger."Hopefully we might be turning the corner and have more English managers in the league."Laws has nothing but admiration for the way Redknapp has revived Tottenham, who could still clinch third spot, and followed Everton's lead by breaking into the top four.He said: "It has been almost a closed shop, a league within a league. It's about time another club got the opportunity and Spurs have done so, which is refreshing."They have under-achieved for a long time but under Harry have gone from strength to strength since he turned up. He has done a fantastic job."He is very attack-minded. His teams are always pleasing to the eye. But we don't want them to claim third spot as that means they will have beaten us."We have got to go out there with the right attitude and finish the season on a positive note. Extra prize money would strengthen my hand about bringing another player in."Laws intends to trim his squad in the summer and will address the out-of-contract players next week. While 38-year-old Graham Alexander is set for a new deal, Robbie Blake, Steven Caldwell, Stephen Jordan, Michael Duff, Stephen Thompson as well as goalkeepers Brian Jensen and Nicky Weaver all face uncertain futures.Laws added: "The planning and the finances have been put in place and I will be meeting the players after the Tottenham game. The numbers are too big for the Championship."It has been a great adventure, fantastic for the town, for the club, the players and supporters."We want to push hard next season so we can come back to the best league in the world. There are a lot of things for this club to look forward to."
