Kompany tells City to stick with Mancini

Vincent Kompany has told the Manchester City hierarchy they will benefit from the stability of keeping Roberto Mancini at the helm this summer. It has been suggested Mancini would be made to pay a heavy price for City's failure to secure a Champions League place but Kompany has outlined the advantages of keeping the Italian at the club."Every team needs stability," said the Belgium international."Look at the best teams. They have not been built in a day, but over years and some of them decades."Stability will eventually get us in there and its stability that has made us look better at the end of the season."Next season we are going to look even stronger because the people in charge of this club know exactly what to do."Indeed, such has been the pace of change around Eastlands that as Kompany looked around the field on Wednesday, he regarded himself as one of the longest-serving members of the team. That the 24-year-old has only been around for two seasons since his arrival from Hamburg says a lot about the revolution that was instigated by the Abu Dhabi United Group.Add in the mountain of off-field problems the Blues also had to cope with and there is an argument City did well to remain in the top-four fight as long as they did."There were so many personal situations - Emmanuel Adebayor in Togo, the red cards, Carlos Tevez and the birth of his daughter, Wayne Bridge and his personal life, Robinho. I could go on and on."You won't find any team that has had so many off-field problems."Although Mancini has been reluctant to identify which players might leave this summer, the departure of Robinho seems inevitable.Additions can be expected too, although the standard may not be as high as Mancini would have hoped for if City had qualified for the Champions League.Yet, even if the Italian were to leave his present squad untouched, Kompany believes the harsh lessons learned this season would be enough to guarantee improvement."Even if we go into next season with this team, not a lot of people would bet against us," he said."We are only going to get better because the owners and manager will add some quality players."That will be enough to achieve our goals because we know each other better now."You can recognise our style and pattern of play, which wasn't the case before."We have brought in a ridiculous amount of new players and it takes some time to blend in."With one more year playing together, I would back this team all day."This is going to be Manchester City's best finish in a Premier League season. But we want to do better and if we do, we are in the Champions League."With Gareth Barry ruled out with an ankle injury that has placed a massive question mark over his presence at the World Cup, Patrick Vieira is set to start in central midfield. The veteran Frenchman might not have set the world alight since his arrival from Inter Milan in January, but it seems he has done enough to warrant a 12-month extension."I still need to speak with him but I think we will keep Patrick," said Mancini."He is an important player."
