Unhappy fans should target O'Neill, the real Villan of the piece, not burned-out Agbonlahor

Martin O'Neill must take his share of the blame for the shoddy way Gabriel  Agbonlahor was treated by some Aston Villafans against Tottenham. The manager entered his team into the InterToto Cup last July and ensured they would face a formidable fixture list, which he now admits has left them tired. Don't listen to them: Martin O'Neill comforts the taken-off Agbonlahor He then raised expectations about Champions League qualification by gambling  everything on finishing in the top four of the Premier League including, when  he fielded a weakened team in the knockout stages, Villa's genuine shot at UEFA  Cup glory. So when unrealistic supporters cheer the substitution of a young player who  will inevitably suffer fluctuations of form in such a long season it is not  just their actions he should be questioning.    More from Hatchet Man. HATCHET MAN: Two goals in two matches hardly makes shin-digger Essien prolific - he's only got 16 in 148 games for Chelsea16/03/09 HATCHET MAN: Come clean Sir Alex: It was cowardice, not anger, that made you dodge the Sky TV cameras16/03/09 HATCHET MAN: He's cost City £800,000 a goal and travels worse than cheese in a spacesuit - happy 29th week of fleecing City, Mr Robinho16/03/09 HATCHET MAN: Robinson's attack on his West Brom team-mates is more ill-timed than brave13/03/09 HATCHET MAN: Owen's return at Newcastle is nothing more than a 'massive' anti-climax13/03/09 HATCHET MAN: Dancing fiend: Wright-Phillips goal celebration was more like an Abba routine13/03/09 HATCHET MAN: Arsenal's narrow victory in Rome doesn't mean their problems are ancient history13/03/09 HATCHET MAN: Rooney may live to regret his hate-filled outburst ahead of Liverpool clash13/03/09 VIEW FULL ARCHIVE
