Manchester United v Stoke City: fresh doubts cast over Ben Foster's future at Old Trafford

England international Foster claimed earlier this week that he is ready to seek a move elsewhere after falling to third-choice keeper at United behind Edwin van der Sar and Tomasz Kuszczak. The former Stoke and Watford keeper had started the campaign as first-choice with Van der Sar sidelined with a hand injury.  Related ArticlesManchester United v Stoke City: match previewFerguson: one bad week cost United the titleGlazers show intent by rejecting £1.5bn bidMan United and Rooney put contract talks on holdRio Ferdinand enjoys fitness boostNeville: We must blame ourselvesBut a series of costly errors led to Foster losing his place in the starting line-up to Polish keeper Kuszczak. Foster's fall from grace at United has since cost him a place in the England squad and ended his hopes of selection for Fabio Capello's World Cup party. And despite admitting that Foster remains one of the country's brightest goalkeeping prospects, Ferguson insists that he cannot guarantee a change in the keeper's situation at Old Trafford. Ferguson said: 'I've had a chat with Ben about that and I understand his dilemma, but there's nothing you can do about it to be honest with you. 'He is a terrific goalkeeper and we will just see what the future brings for the boy because, in my mind, he has the talent to be the England goalkeeper. 'We are conscious of that and we would like to help, but it's unfortunate that he's not had enough football to get him on that plane to South Africa.' While Foster's future remains uncertain, Ferguson has confirmed that Jonny Evans has agreed a new contract at Old Trafford.
