Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon set for operation after Wolves clash

Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon is to undergo surgery to remove a metal plate from his arm.  The 27-year-old Scotland international will have an operation after Sunday's final Barclays Premier League game of the season at Wolves to remove the plate, which was inserted after he suffered a fracture in a collision with Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe in November.   He will then spend part of his summer break back on Wearside rehabilitating before the start of the new campaign.   Recovery: Gordon should be fighting fit in time for the start of next seasonGordon told the club's official website: 'I will have the operation to get the plate out and then I will be in the hands of the physios here for my rehab, however long that will take.'Hopefully, I will be fully fit and ready to participate in pre-season training.'Gordon was out of action for more than two months, but returned for the FA Cup fourth-round defeat at Portsmouth on January 23.The £9million signing has produced some of his best displays for the club in recent months.Meanwhile, Lee Cattermole has a suspected dislocated shoulder.The midfielder sustained the injury in training and manager Steve Bruce said: 'We'll know more in 24 hours or so when we can let the supporters know exactly what's going on.' Meyler set to miss start of next season after rupturing knee ligamentsDon't call me a hero!
