Forrest revels in 'crazy' week

Celtic youngster James Forrest has revealed he is still in dreamland after the best week of his fledgling career. Fresh from helping the club complete the Clydesdale Bank Under-19 League and Scottish Youth Cup double, the 18-year-old scored six minutes into his first-team debut in Saturday's SPL thrashing of Motherwell. The whirlwind week has been all too much for the forward, who continues to pinch himself over what has unfolded."I'm still buzzing," said Forrest, who replaced Aiden McGeady for the final nine minutes of the Motherwell game."I was delighted to score, obviously, but I was delighted first of all just to get on - the goal topped it all off."It's been a bit crazy - the week's all just blurred together. But I think scoring the goal on Saturday was my highlight."Scoring on your debut at Celtic Park. you won't get a better feeling than that."Forrest, who has been at Celtic since the age of nine, added: "My dad was at the game and he was obviously delighted as well."I also had loads of texts after the game from friends and old coaches all saying, 'Well done'."Now I want to get more of it."Forrest has been an unused substitute on more than one occasion this season, so was surprised when interim manager Neil Lennon called on him on Saturday."I didn't actually expect to get on, but it went to 2-0 and he told me to get stripped," Forrest said."It was good just to get the last 10 minutes so I could get into the swing of things - it was a nice, gentle break-in."I wasn't even thinking about getting a goal beforehand - it was just a nice wee extra."He added: "I didn't really know what to do when I scored, though, so thankfully everyone swamped me."Forrest's week to remember might not have happened at all had he not recovered from a knee injury suffered in an under-19 Old Firm derby defeat two months ago.He told Celtic View: "I was out for about six weeks but managed to come back recently and play a few games."Neil Lennon told me when I came back from injury that he was looking to get me on in a first-team game, but he advised me that it would be better for me if I got back into things by playing with the under-19s first."And Forrest believes he is not the only member of the under-19s ready to break into the first team.He said: "They are all on a high and hopefully a lot of the older ones will get new contracts and a shot at the first team soon."There are a lot who are capable of the step up."
