Parker: Hammers will get better

Midfield talisman Scott Parker is in no doubt West Ham can "push on" under Gianfranco Zola next season. The Irons all but secured their place in the Premier League following a 3-2 victory over fellow strugglers Wigan at Upton Park.It has been a rollercoaster campaign for the east London club, whose perilous financial state meant some players had to be sold to raise cash - and indeed West Ham would have gone into administration with debts of some £105million had David Gold and David Sullivan not taken charge.Speculation is rife Gold and Sullivan are looking to replace Zola in the summer - with the likes of Mark Hughes, Steve McClaren and former Hammers favourite Slaven Bilic all linked with the job.West Ham, however, insist no decision will made about the manager until the end of the season - and Gold has insisted he felt Zola "deserves another crack", although the Italian could yet decide for himself he needs time away from the game.Parker ran over to hug Zola following his spectacular 25-yard strike against the Latics, and believes the team can improve under his continued guidance."A lot of people say he is a nice man, but he is not just a nice man - he is an extremely talented and good manager," Parker said."People will say I would support him but, from the bottom of my heart, he is a good man and is a very good manager, along with the staff he has got here."Hopefully we can go and push on next year."Parker added: "It has been a horrible season, but we have put up with a lot of mess - only a few months ago we were reading this and that [about the club's future]."I am not making excuses - at times we have not been good enough - but hopefully we have erased some of the bad things and we can look forward to kicking on next year, sticking together, learning from this and moving forward."Parker has been tipped to win a place in England's World Cup squad on the back of an impressive end to the campaign."I don't think I would have had the season like I have had personally without him behind me," said Parker."He has given me massive belief and confidence and from my reaction [after the goal], you can see that I respect him."Whoever is in charge at Upton Park next season will have to fall into line with the need to cut the astronomical wage bill.Paris St Germain are said to be ready to offer £2million for Congo defender Herita Ilunga, who joined West Ham during 2008.
