Dowie may give youth a chance

Hull boss Iain Dowie could look to the future when he names his side to face Wigan at the DW Stadium on Monday. With the Tigers all but relegated following their 1-0 defeat by Sunderland last weekend, many fans have been calling for the club's young talent to be given a chance.Tom Cairney has impressed in midfield on occasion this season while fellow teenagers Liam Cooper and Mark Cullen have also made their Barclays Premier League debuts.Dowie said: "They're certainly what we're going to base our future around. The likes of Cooper, Cullen and Cairney are very much in my thoughts."Cooper's just got himself back fit when (Anthony) Gardner and (Steven) Mouyokolo have played as well as they have all year so he might have to bide his time."But the key element is the performance; I want a big, big performance away at Wigan."Striker Cullen made his first-team bow at Wigan in Hull's FA Cup third-round defeat earlier this season before getting his chance in the league last weekend. It turned out to be a bittersweet 18th birthday as the result condemned the Tigers to Championship football next season.Dowie was impressed by the youngster and expects him to be an important figure for the club in the second tier next term."His movement was good," continued Dowie. "He put in a great ball that led to a great chance for Craig Fagan, he wants to get in behind, and that's a key point."It's a big ask but he's a tough boy, he puts his foot in, his movement allows him to get in goalscoring opportunities and I'm sure he'll be a goalscorer."Cullen conceded it was not the outcome he had wanted for his first Premier League experience. He said: "It was a case of mixed emotions last weekend but playing in the Premier League is something I have always wanted to do."I did enjoy it but a result for the team would have made it a lot better. Now I just have to try and impress as much as possible. I want to make my mark and play well if I get the chance."And he is hoping that chance will come against Wigan."It would definitely be great to be involved there again on Monday and it would be nice to be involved in the last couple of games this season," he added on www.hullcityafc.net."We all want to do the best we can for the club and finish with as many points as we can. It would be nice to get a first away win of the season and we'll be looking to take the three points."
