FIFA backtrack on McFadden strike

The Birmingham striker had been denied his claim on the strike in September's 2-1 win in Reykjavik, after FIFA awarded it to Celtic's Barry Robson. The world governing body refused to amend the record books, despite television replays clearly showing McFadden got the final touch. But the Scottish Football Association lobbied on McFadden's behalf, and FIFA have now backed down - taking the striker's goal record to 14 in 42 internationals.SFA chief executive Gordon Smith said in the Sunday Mail: "FIFA have rightly changed the records. We felt it was only fair."McFadden is definitely out of the upcoming double-header against Holland and Iceland, and one man hoping to replace him is Chris Iwelumo. The Wolves striker, who missed a sitter on his Scotland debut against Norway in October, ended his 16-match scoring drought in Saturday's 2-1 Championship win against Charlton.Iwelumo believes Scotland must win in Amsterdam on March 28 and against Iceland at Hampden four days later. He said in the Daily Star Sunday: "We can't afford to get beaten in Amsterdam and then we play Iceland at home, so there's a lot of pressure on us to win that one."It's good to be part of it rather than watching it in some bar. I'm Scottish born and bred, and it's a fantastic honour."Iwelumo believes he should be joined in the side by new Wolves team-mate Christophe Berra, who signed from Hearts last month. He said: "Christophe is awesome."Coming to Wolves will only improve his chances. Playing in the Championship is a harder challenge than the SPL. It's faster and more physical."I hope (manager) George (Burley) puts him in, because he deserves it."
